Water Audit
A
water audit is when you survey a certain location for its water
consumption these include public areas such as schools, businesses, or
government buildings. A water audit is used to determine the amount of
water that is consumed in a certain location, which later could be used
to see how much water is needed to limit. To do this you need the proper
tools which include a bag with markings in liters up to 5 which is used
in a sink. Then there is the water test
for urinals and toilets where you count how long it takes for the water
to be flushed. The water audit may just help you conserve water but
save money on your water bill by simple as replacing your faucets
aerators that limit water usage.
During
our school water audit we surveyed the main gym, the auxiliary gym, the
band room, the theater room, and several other bathrooms within the main
building. For the most part the bathrooms we surveyed in both gyms met
expectations while the ones in the bathroom took a little longer to
perform its routine. To audit the sinks we
would have to have someone hold the while we had the other person count
for the 5 seconds it took to audit each of the sinks. For the most part
the frequent number 2L of water applied to most sinks. For the toilets
and urinals to meet expectations it had to be at least 5
seconds but some took time to overflow past the time and made into 8 or
9 seconds. What we learned from surveying the bathrooms was that the
older models had the highest water consumption which also took the
longest to flush or run the faucet.Although we did have slightly
different results than from the actual ones.
A water audit could be useful or helpful to the environment by
conserving water that could affect many other beings besides humans. If
water was to disappear from a certain ecosystem or region wildlife and
vegetation populations would begin to decrease drastically. Humans in
that area would have to find a new source of water that would satisfy
them with their water consumption;which would also affect other water
sources. So therefore by doing a water audit we could help preserve
water for future generations to enjoy it by going to the lake or river
bank in which you could enjoy
a nice swim or you could fish in under a peaceful sky. If this madness
continues with "certain" people exceeding their water consumption the
Earth might a desolate waterless world that appear to be dry and dull.
